Philadelphia, Pa.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad, short on fire power due to recent injuries, faced off against defending CACC champion-University of the Sciences Tuesday evening as the host-Devils coasted to a 76-48 victory over the Lions in divisional action.
USciences (7-0, 2-0 CACC) eliminated all of the drama early by scorching GCU, 46-21, in the first 20 minutes of action. The Devils expanded the surplus to 64-32 after three periods before reaching their high-water mark of 34 points (66-32) with 8:53 remaining in regulation.
The home team shot a healthy 46.6% (27-for-58) from the floor compared to 30.8% (16-for-52) for the Lions.
We prepared, but did not execute," stated head coach
Jazz Perazic. "USciences is a very good team, ranked 17th in the latest NCAA poll. This is a very patient, poised and great three-point shooting team. We again had some good moments and we must continue to grow and improve. We really missed
Catherine Phipps (injured) today. It would have helped to have another three-point threat on the floor."
Irisa Ye (Fr.-Lansdale, Pa.) and
Jordan Vitelli (So.-Warrington, Pa.) topped the Devils with 14 points apiece while
Sarah Abbonizio (Sr.-West Chester, Pa.) dropped in 10 of her own.
GCU's
Carna Prokic topped all players with her season-high 16 points.
Jaelyn Tweedy followed with 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers.
The Lions (2-6, 0-2 CACC) now remain idle until Saturday, December 16 when Georgian Court travels to Kutztown University for a non-conference contest. Tip is slated for 4:00 p.m.
