Philadelphia, Pa.- Down by three at intermission, Holy Family University answered in a big way as the hometown Tigers outscored visiting Georgian Court University, 53-26, in the second half to coast to a 92-68 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) divisional victory in the Campus Center Gym.
HFU (2-11, 1-4 CACC) enjoyed a 25-21 advantage after the first 10:00 of action before the Lions (2-10, 0-5 CACC) responded with a 21-14 effort in the second quarter to ease into the half with a slight 42-39 surplus.Â
An
Elizabeth Radley (So.-Hainesport, N.J.) fast break lay-up with 6:25 remaining in the third frame inched Holy Family ahead by one (45-44), a lead the Tigers would sink their claws into for the remainder of the contest. A 16-7 push by HFU would put the eventual victors ahead by a 61-51 mark heading into the fourth-and-final period.
A J
ess Placher lay-in with 8:52 left cut the Georgian Court deficit to five (61-56). The Lions' comeback ended at that point, however, as HFU mounted an insurmountable 25-5 surge to go ahead by a game-high 25 points with 2:04 to go.
Six Tigers deposited ten or more points in the victory, led by
Jada Smith's (Philadelphia, Pa.) double-double performance consisting of 18 points and 13 boards. The freshman also proved to be a pest on the defensive end of the floor with a game-topping five blocks.
Alexis Hofstaedter (Sr.-Richboro, Pa.) drained 15 points to go along with eight assists while Radley compiled her own double-double contribution with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
