Lions Remain Perfect in Conference Play With Solid 88-73 Road Win at Chestnut Hill

Philadelphia, Pa. - Seeing its first action since December 8, the Georgian Court University women's squad came out invigorated Wednesday evening with an impressive 88-73 triumph at Chestnut Hill College, providing the Lions their second straight victory in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference hoops action.

The win improves GCU to 2-0 in CACC competition (2-8 overall) after taking down Goldey-Beacom College (88-84) back on Dec. 4. The margin of victory is the Lions' largest since dropping Mercy College, 75-60, back on Nov., 18, 2017 in the Wellness Center Arena.

Chestnut Hill (2-8, 0-2 CACC) opened the contest with a commanding 24-15 showing after the initial 10 minutes of action. The Lions answered with a 25-15 counterpunch in the second quarter, providing GCU with a slim 40-39 advantage heading into intermission.

A seven-point run, capped by a Destiny Thompson layup and subsequent free throw at 2:55 of the third quarter, provided the road team with a 57-50 surplus. Hanging on to a six-point lead (58-52) heading into the fourth-and-final frame, the Lions exploded on a 16-7 tear to take a commanding 74-59 advantage with just 3:24 left.

Four Lions eclipsed double-digits in the scoring column, led by Jada Atchison and her team-high 23 points (5-for-13 3 PT). Safiyyah Lee authored the team's first double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 boards. The Camden, N.J. native also tied for the team lead with four assists, three steals and a pair of blocks.

Thompson connected on 16 points, complemented by seven rebounds, in 20 minutes of action. Nerea Brajac deposited 10 points in the win.

The Griffins' Cassie Sebold (So.-Willow Grove, Pa.) topped all players with her 26 points on the night.

GCU returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 29 (2:00 p.m.) with a visit to Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J.
