Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The third season of Georgian Court University men's lacrosse is officially underway as the Lions took on Mercy College Tuesday afternoon. The host-Mavericks, ranked #18 in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II Coaches Poll, coasted to the 15-4 home victory over GCU.
The Mavericks, now 1-1 on the year, jumped out to an initial 7-0 lead with 7:25 to go in the half before
Michael Saladino buried the Lions' first goal of the campaign, courtesy of a J
ohn Kicak feed, at the 5:02 mark of the second period.
Mercy came out of intermission with a 9-1 surplus, and increased its lead to 11-2 heading into the fourth-and-final frame. The Mavericks almost doubled the Lions with a 41-22 shot advantage, and a 35-16 margin related to shots-on-goal.
Bobby Chillianis (Jr.-Bethpage, N.Y.) and
Dominic Scorcia (Fr.-Franklin Square, N.Y.) each drained four goals apiece for the victors while
Tommy McPartland (So.-Farmingdale, N.Y.) contributed a hat trick.
Saladino netted two of the Lions four tallies with the others coming courtesy of
Jeffrey Galatola and
Connor Houghton.Â
Ryan Gibbons (Jr.-Seaford, N.Y.) collected nine saves in 41:35 of action en route to the victory in net for Mercy.
Austin Geissel registered a game-best 13 saves in 45:00 in net for the Lions.
Georgian Court (0-1) remains on the road for its next contest as the Lions visit Southern New Hampshire University Saturday at noon.
