Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University is now just one win away from being the first-ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Lacrosse champion as the #1-seed Lions walloped #4 Wilmington University, 17-4, in Friday's semifinal contest, hosted by GCU.
The Lions, winners of six straight (10-6 overall) ,will now take on #2 Chestnut Hill College Sunday at noon. The Griffins pasted #3 Post University, 18-1, in the day's other semifinal showdown,.
In a low-scoring first period, the Lions finished the first 15 minutes with a 2-1 surplus. GCU took control of the contest in the second, outscoring its opponent by a 6-2 margin to take an 8-3 lead into intermission. It was all Georgian Court in the second stanza as the top seed netted nine unanswered tallies to take a mighty 17-3 advantage with 4:43 left in regulation.
Austin Geissel, the CACC Defensive Player of the Year, showed his worth as the sophomore shot-stopper collected five saves over 48:19 to earn the victory for the Lions.
Noah Given went the full 60:00 for the Wildcats (4-9), controlling 12 saves in the effort. GCU out-shot WU by a margin of 47-24, including a 29-12 advantage on net.
Jeffrey Galatola led the way for the victors with his six points on the day (four goals, two assists) while
Tanner Lee registered four goals and a helper. CACCÂ Player of the Year,
Michael Saladino, collected two goals and two assists while
Patrick Quinn also netted two tallies.
Georgian Court bested Chestnut Hill, 10-8, in the teams' lone contest of the season back on April 17 in Pennsylvania.
