Softball Stymied By Shippensburg, 6-1, in Sunday Finale of Myrtle Beach Freeze Out

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Entering Sunday's finale of the three-day Snowbird Freeze Out sporting an unblemished record of 4-0, Georgian Court University softball took the diamond vs. regional foe, Shippensburg University, before beginning the trek back north to the Garden State.

The hot-hitting Lions ran into a buzz saw of a pitcher as Taryn Wilson (Sr.-Hegins, Pa.) mastered the Georgian Court lineup en route to a 6-1 victory for Shippensburg (4-4). Wilson went all seven frames in the victory, yielding just one run on four hits while striking 14 (2 BB) in the triumph.

GCU's lone tally came courtesy of Marissa Trezza's second home run in as many days as the junior first baseman blasted a solo shot to right-center in the top of the fourth frame.

3B Courtney Coy (So.-Shippensburg, Pa.) highlighted the Raiders' offense with a 3-for-3 day at the dish, which included a two-run double in the third inning and a two-run long ball in the fourth. CF Kayla Bonawitz (Jr.-Palmyra, Pa.) and 2B Morgan DeFeo (Fr.-West Grove, Pa.) each registered a pair of hits and scored two runs for the victors.

Bobbi Beck (0-1), in her first start for the Lions, suffered the setback as the freshman yielded a first-inning run and three hits overall in 2.2 innings of work.

Georgian Court (4-1) now remains idle until returning to action on Saturday, March 2 for games vs. Cedarville University (1:30 p.m.) and Northern State University (3:45 pm) on Day One of the 2019 PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.
