Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University continues to be a force on the home hardwood as the Lions collected its fourth-straight victory in the Wellness Center Arena after sending off visiting Chestnut Hill College, 78-65, Tuesday evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball action.

The victory pushes the record of the third-place Lions to 8-4 in conference play (8-12 overall) while the Griffins (6-14 3-8 CACC) drop their second consecutive outing.

GCU came out of the first quarter of action with a slim 19-16 advantage. Chestnut Hill netted the initial five points of the second period to take a 21-19 lead (7:35) before the home team mounted a 14-4 run to hustle into halftime with an eight-point surplus of 33-25.

The Lions turned up the offensive octane in the third frame, growing their lead to a high-water mark of 48-30 after a Destiny Thompson layup at 3:21 capped a 15-3 run. The Griffins sliced the deficit to as low as eight (58-50) with 6:39 remaining in regulation, but that would be as close as they would climb the rest of the way.

Provided opportunity time-after-time at the charity stripe (thanks to 25 personal fouls by GCU), Chestnut Hill shot a dismal 16-of-29 (55.2%) from the line as the squad's 13 misses matched its deficit at the final horn.

Thompson topped the Lions' lineup with her game-high 21 points, complemented by her eight boards over 30 minutes of action. Carna Prokic contributed a collection of stellar numbers including 15 points, five steals, seven boards and a pair of blocks. Jada Atchison cracked double-digits with her 11 points while Safiyyah Lee was a force on both ends of the floor (9 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocks, 3 steals).

Leah Miller (Fr.-Punxsutawney, Pa.) made the most of her first-ever visit to the Wellness Center as the freshman authored a double-double with team-highs of 15 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Griffins.

Georgian Court goes for its fifth consecutive home "W" Saturday afternoon with a noontime conference contest vs. Nyack College. The day marks GCU's annual National Girls and Women in Sports celebration, highlighted by the induction of the Lions' 2008 women's volleyball squad into the CACC Hall-of-Fame at halftime.
