GAME ONE
A Georgian Court fielding error in the bottom of the sixth allowed the eventual-winning run to score from second base for #17 University of Indianapolis as the Greyhounds secured a 2-1 comeback victory over the Lions in Saturday's first game of the morning.
GCU initiated the scoring in the top of the first when
Samantha Reilly's double to left-center brought home
Caitlin Hughes, who led off the game with a walk and subsequent stolen base. Indy (12-4) responded in the last of the third as
Taylor Danielson (So.-Twin Lakes, Wisc.) lifted a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right to knot the score at 1-all.
Shannon Schuetz (Sr.-Aviston, Ill.) led off the decisive sixth inning with a walk. Pinch-runner,
Sydnie Foster (So.-Plainfield, Ind.), was then moved to second after a
Cathy Skaggs (Jr.-Kokomo, Ind.) sacrifice bunt.
Taylor Podschweit (Sr.-Aurora, Ill.) then drew a free pass to bring pinch-hitter,
Kamrie Foster (So.-Plainfield, Ind.), to the plate as she smashed an 0-1 pitch through the legs of the GCU third baseman, bringing her sister home from second with the winner.
Indy starting pitcher,
Halie Waters (So.-Boonville, Ind.), showed tremendous endurance in the circle, striking out 15 batters on 149 total pitches in the complete-game victory (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB), improving to 7-1 on the year.
Mikayla Gilgert (6-2), who came into the game for GCU starter
Jessica O'Neil (3.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) to start the fourth, suffered the tough-luck loss for the Lions (2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K).
GAME TWO
A second-inning solo dinger from
Mikaela Tribby (R-So.-Boca Raton, Fla.), followed by a
Kaitlyn Snyder (Sr.-Smithtown, N.Y.) sacrifice fly in the third, provided Molloy College an early 2-0 advantage in the nightcap.Â
The lead did not last long as the aforementioned Springer (2-for-4) crunched a 1-2 pitch over the fence in right-center, a two-run shot, to tie the game at 2-2. Georgian Court proceeded to plate seven more unanswered tallies in the bottom of the fourth, book-ended by a a solo homer and a two-run double off the stick of
Malaya Black (3-for-3), as the Lions' batted around.
After Molloy brought around a run in the top of the fifth to make the score 9-3 Georgian Court, Springer sprung again in the bottom of the six with yet another two-run blast to walk away with the win.
Reilly enjoyed a 2-for-4 effort with two RBI for the Lions.
Bobbie Beck earned her second win of the year for GCU (2-1) as the southpaw permitted three runs (1 ER) on six hits (4 K) over 4.1 innings pitched. Molloy starter,
Jenna Turato (Sr.-Garden City South, N.Y.) suffered the loss for Molloy (4.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, 6 K).
The Lions now return to campus to open their home slate with a non-conference twin-bill Tuesday afternoon vs. Adelphi University. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
