Pitch Perfect! Georgian Court Hurlers Provide Pair of Shutouts as #18 Lions Sweep Goldey-Beacom

Wilmington, Del. - #18 Georgian Court University extended its winning streak to a astounding 15-straight games Wednesday afternoon as the Lions extinguished Goldey-Beacom College, 4-0 and 11-0, in yet another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep.

First-place GCU inflates its record vs. CACC foes to 17-1 on the year while pushing its overall mark to 32-5. The Lightning, after today's shutout losses, drop to 8-24 (6-10 CACC).

Two runs in the third and a lone tally in both the second and fourth innings did the trick as the Lions, led by pitching ace Jessica O'Neil, coasted to the 4-0 Game One win. O'Neil, the CACC earned-run average leader, lowered her top mark to 1.55 after firing seven scoreless frames (4 H, 3 K) to improve to a stellar 13-1 on the year.

Samantha Reilly (3 BB, sac fly), Eryka Springer (1-for-4) and Haley Jones (sac fly) provided the RBI's for the victors. Malaya Black enjoyed the lone multi-hit effort for the lineup.

The nightcap cruised along with four scoreless frames before Georgian Court put up a five-spot in the fifth and seventh stanza to cruise to the softball sweep. Mikayla Gilgert (12-3) dazzled in the circle as the freshman righty held the Lightning to four hits ( 7 K) over her six innings en route to the victory.

Haley Jones (3-for-4, 2B) and Eryka Springer (1-for-3, 3B) provided three RBI apiece while Malia Black (2-for-4), Marissa Trezza (2-for-4, 3B) and Kendalia Turner (2-for-4) each rapped a pair of hits in the rout.

Georgian Court returns home to host Bloomfield College this Saturday at noon.
