#25 Lions Completes Pair of Comeback Wins at Chestnut Hill to Secure Fourth-Straight D.H Sweep

Philadelphia, Pa. - Georgian Court University softball continues to roll as the #25 Lions compiled a pair of comeback road wins Tuesday afternoon at Chestnut Hill College, providing GCU with four straight doubleheader sweeps and nine consecutive victories overall.

In the opener, both teams plated a run in the third frame before Chestnut Hill cracked the stalemate with a go-ahead tally to make it 2-1 Griffins after five full. The Lions and their lethal lineup rallied to take its first lead of the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, courtesy of a Malaya Black ribbie double and a run-inducing fielding blunder by the home squad.

Now ahead by a 3-2 margin, GCU proceeded to break the contest open in the top of the seventh as the Lions tacked on four runs on four hits to go ahead by five at 7-2. A pair of opposite field, two-run home runs off the bats of reigning CACC Player of the Week, Marissa Trezza, and Paige Eckert accounted for the seventh-inning scoring.

Eckert's second blast of the season came on an 0-2 pitch after the junior transfer fouled off six straight pitches before depositing her dinger over the right-field fence.

Jessica O'Neil reached the 10-win threshold (10-1) after permitting two runs (1 ER) on five hits (3 K) over five innings. Mikayla Gilgert closed out the Georgian Court win with two shutout innings (BB, 2 K) to earn the freshman her second save, tying her with the aforementioned O'Neil and Bobbie Beck for the conference lead in that department.

Trailing 2-1 after the initial frame of the nightcap, Georgian Court methodically dismantled Chestnut Hill by outscoring the Griffins 11-2 the rest of the way en route to the 12-4 triumph.

Five Lions garnered two RBI apiece in the rout, including Kendalia Turner (2-for-5, 2B), Samantha Reilly (2-for-3), Eryka Springer (3-for-3, 2B), Eckert (1-4) and Haley Jones (2-for-3). Reilly tied Trezza for the conference lead with her 11th homer of the year in the fourth while Jones jumped all over her first of the season (a solo shot) in the fifth.

Gilgert went the distance for GCU in the circle (7.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 7 K) as the rookie phenom improves to 10-3 on the season.

Now 11-1 in CACC competition, the Lions improve to 26-5 on the year while the host-Griffins slide to 7-13 (3-5 CACC).

Georgian Court returns home this Thursday to host Holy Family University (2:30 p.m.) in another CACC twin-bill.
