Spectacular Senior Day Comeback Falls Just Short as Lions Drop 16-13 Decision to Chestnut Hill

Lakewood, N.J. - Trailing by 10 goals at intermission, Georgian Court University outscored visiting Chestnut Hill College by an 11-4 margin in the second half, but ultimately ran out of time in what would result in a 16-13 setback to the Griffins Wednesday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's lacrosse marquee matchup.

The loss drops the Lions to 7-8 on the year (3-1 CACC) and marks GCU's first-ever loss in CACC competition, snapping a 10-game winning streak (including postseason) vs. conference foes. Chestnut Hill improves to 4-0 in CACC play (9-4 overall) as the Griffins clinch the top-seed in next week's Championship Tournament.

With the score knotted at two-all with 9:01 left in the initial period of play, CHC rattled off ten-straight tallies, capped by a Ben Revak (So.-Ashton, Pa.) goal with 2:02 to go in the half.

On the wrong end of a 10-2 deficit entering the second stanza, Georgian Court's offense ignited coming out of the break as the Lions outscored the Griffins, 7-2, in the third to slice the CHC lead to 14-9 with 15:00 left to play.

After a Casey Brown (Sr.-Havre de Grace, Md.) goal put the visitors up 15-9 just 39 seconds into the final frame, GCU continued its offensive flurry with four straight goals to climb back to within a pair with just 5:31 left.

Unfortunately, that would be the end of the line for the Lions as a Chestnut Hill insurance tally by Carson Rees (So.-Port Cocuitlam, British Columbia) with 2:26 to go sealed the road win for the Griffins.

The aforementioned Rees closed the contest with five goals and an assist in the win while Scott Wilden (Jr.-Wexford, Pa.) topped all players with eight total points (five goals, three assists).

Randy Collins (three goals, two assists) and Tanner Lee authored hat tricks for the Lions in GCU's final regular-season home game of the year. Devin Bell, Brandon Razler and P.J. Saracino contributed two tallies apiece. Ryder Verdoni distributed four helpers in the effort.

CHC's Austin Jones (Fr.-Courtuce, Ontario) registered the goalkeeping win for the Griffins with 21 saves in 59:56 of work. Austin Geissel suffered the setback, despite securing 14 saves in the outing. The junior net-minder provided a thrill for the fans in attendance as Geissel sprinted coast-to-coast at 9:38 in the fourth for his second career goal.

The Lions conclude the 2019 regular-season slate this Saturday with a noontime start at Dominican College.
