Samantha Fernandez became the third player in Georgian Court University women's lacrosse history to eclipse 200 career goals as the senior sent in the milestone missile with 21:08 remaining in Wednesday's 15-1 CACC triumph over visiting Chestnut Hill College.
The Toms River, N.J. native joins
Melissa Williams (2013-16) and
Ryan McGrath (2008-11) as the only players since the team's inception in 2007 to reach the 200-goal plateau. Williams sits as the Lion's all-time leader with 206 career tallies, followed by McGrath at 205.
Georgian Court (6-4, 2-0 CACC) opened the contest with a 10-0 lead at the 11:15 mark of the first half as the Lions coasted into intermission with a 12-1 surplus.
Julia Reinert (Sr.-Bridgeport, Pa.) netted the Griffins' lone goal with 8:43 to go before the break.
Arianna Quinlan registered her second-straight four-goal performance to lead the victors. Fernandez and
Angelina Palermo contributed three goals and an assist.
Heather Devaney picked up a tally and an assist while
Nicole Barbella dished a pair of helpers.
Shaine Sauter scooped up four ground balls and secured four draw controls in the rout for the Lions. GCU outshot the Griffins by a 40-11 count (23-6 shots-on-goal).
Amber Neumann, the reigning CACC Goalkeeper of the Week after last week's 9-5 upset of nationally-ranked NYIT, collected three saves over 30:00 to earn Wednesday's win.
Lucy Tamke gathered two saves of her own as the junior keeper played the entire second half.
Georgian Court returns to action Thursday afternoon with a 4:00 p,m. visit to Holy Family University.
