Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University, the #2 seed in the 2019 edition of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament, advanced to its second-straight title game after a 15-6 dismissal of #3 Wilmington University Thursday afternoon in semifinal action.
The victory secures a rematch with Chestnut Hill College in the finale as the #1-seed Griffins downed #4 Dominican, 19-11, in the day's first contest. Georgian Court defeated CHC in last season's final, 9-7, to secure the first-ever CACCÂ Men's Lacrosse crown.
GCU (9-8) was never truly threatened in today's match as the Lions, playing on their home turf, enjoyed a modest 4-2 lead after the initial quarter and a 7-2 surplus heading into intermission. The GCU lead continued to increase as the Georgian Court cushion inflated to 10-3 after three frames before maxing out at a game-high 10-goal advantage (13-3) with 12:01 to go in regulation.
Tanner Lee shined for the Lions' offense by pouring in a game-high five goals in the rout.
Randy Collins provided a balanced attack of two goals and a pair of assists while
P.J. Saracino contributed a pair of tallies and a helper.
Devin Bell also slipped in two goals for the victors.
Despite the outcome, Wilmington outshot the Lions, 50-38, with GCU owning a slight 28-26 shot-on-goal advantage.
In net, the newly-crowned CACC Player of the Year,
Austin Geissel, kept the Wildcats (8-7) at bay with 17 saves over his 53:07, improving to 9-7 in the process.
Lions-Griffins II is slated for Saturday at noon in the GCU Track & Field Complex.
