Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University claimed its third consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference crown (and fifth overall) as the top-seed Lions ran away with a 20-7 triumph over #2 Jefferson Saturday in the CACC Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament title game.
Georgian Court, the first team in CACC women's lacrosse history to win three straight banners, closes the year riding an eleven-game winning streak while winning 33 games in a row vs. CACC foes (including postseason).
With a 5-3 lead at the 12:44 mark of the first half, the Lions accounted for four of the stanza's remaining six tallies to scoot into intermission with a modest 9-5 advantage. The two teams exchanged single scoring efforts to start the second session before Georgian Court fired off 10 unanswered goals to take an insurmountable 20-6 surplus.
Three-time CACC Player of the Year and Georgian Court's all-time leading scorer,
Samantha Fernandez, registered a game-high eight goals in her final appearance sporting the royal-and-gold. The Toms River, N.J. native, with the effort, earned Tournament MVP honors.
Nicole Barbella, also closing out her collegiate career found the back of the net on two occasions while dishing five assists. The senior, who leads the nation with her 90 helpers, ends her playing days with 184 overall.
Madison Heck compiled three goals and a trio of aiders.
Arianna Quinlan ends her year with yet another hat trick while
Angelina Palermo accounted for two goals and an assist.
Amber Neumann, the newly-anointed CACC Goalkeeper of the Year, needed only seven saves to earn her fifteenth victory of the season. For her efforts, the senior shot-stopper joins teammates Barbella, Fernandez and Heck on the All-Tournament Team.
