Three Lions Net Hat Tricks as Georgian Court Hosts Millersville in Non-Conference Action

Lakewood, N.J. - Taking to the home turf for the first time since Feb. 22, Georgian Court University played its seventh-straight foe from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to start the season as the Lions hosted Millersville University in non-conference women's lacrosse action.

Owning a seemingly solid 7-2 lead with 7:10 to go in the first half, the Marauders (3-2) proceeded to pepper the GCU net for eight-straight goals (including three in the final 1:12 before intermission) to build a 10-7 surplus at the 26:29 mark of the second stanza.

A pair of Shaine Sauter scoring efforts book-ended a Millersville three-goal run to put the visitors up by four (13-9) with 16:30 remaining. The Lions cut the deficit to 14-11, thanks to goals by Madison Heck (5:35) and Arianna Quinlan (4:25), before the Marauders put the game on ice after four unanswered tallies made it 18-11 Millersville with 6:56 left.

Gillian Zimmerman (Jr.-New Park, Pa.) contributed nine points in the Millersville victory, snapping a game-high six goals and dishing three helpers in the win. Hayden Corcoran (So.-Gilberstville, Pa.) and Genevieve Speights (Jr.-Shrewsburg, Pa.) followed with a hat trick and helper each for four points apiece.

Quinlan and Sauter secured three goals and an assist each for the Lions. Madison Heck snagged a hat trick of her own in the contest. Sabrina Chandler fired in a pair of tallies for GCU.

Caroline Keller (six ground balls, four caused turnovers), Lauren Onnembo (four ground balls, four caused turnovers) and Jenna Hoffman (three ground balls, four caused turnovers) provided a full effort for the royal-and-gold on the defensive end.

Kelly Layton (Sr.-Ashton, Md.) collected the win in the Millersville net with nine saves in the complete game. Lucy Tamke suffered the loss for GCU with six saves of her own over 39:11.

Georgian Court (1-6) next visits New York Tech this Saturday 3:00 p.m. for another non-conference battle.
