On the Brink! Georgian Court One Win Away From First CACC Crown in 27 Years After 76-57 Victory Over #4 Concordia

Lakewood, N.J.- Georgian Court University women's basketball sits just one victory away from its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference crown since the 1993-94 campaign as the top-seeded Lions conquered #4 Concordia University, 76-57, Thursday evening in semifinals action in the GCU Wellness Center.

The royal-and-gold will now host #2 Dominican Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the CACC title game as the Lady Chargers dismissed #5 Nyack College, 83-60, in the evening's other conference contest.

GCU never trailed vs. the Clippers (6-5) as the home team opened with a 21-8 lead after the initial 10:00 of action before heading into intermission ahead by an even ten points (34-24). The outcome was never truly in question as Concordia could only get as close as eight points the rest of the way (1:44-3rd). The victors blew the game wide open in the final frame as an Anyssa Fields layup with 3:46 remaining in regulation provided the Lions a game-high cushion of 22 points (68-46).

Savawn Hughes topped Georgian Court with 17 points in 33 total minutes, which included an 8-for-9 performance from the charity stripe. The sophomore guard complemented the effort with seven boards, five assists, and four steals.

Fields, the CACC Player of the Year & Defensive Player of the Year, netted 15 points (33 minutes) to go along with eight boards and three swipes. Fellow All-CACC selection, Tian Addison, matched her teammate with 15 points of her own while adding five assists. Andjela Kremenovic also eclipsed double-digits with 12 points.

Hannah Thrainsdottir enjoyed a balanced effort consisting of eight boards, seven points, and two rejections. Leighanna Lister poured in eight points and cleared the glass of seven rebounds in 26 minutes off the GCU bench.

Saundra Cleckley (Jr.-Queens, N.Y.) led all Concordia scorers with 18 points, while also registering nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Marigona Bacaliu (So.-Worcester, Mass.) countered with 16 points of her own with three three-pointers. Jaayden Lafontant (So.-Thiells, N.Y.) closes her season with a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards.

Georgian Court (8-0) opened the 2020-21 campaign vs. Dominican back on Jan. 28, defeating the Lady Chargers, 76-69. DC has not lost since, entering Saturday's final with an 11-1 record.
