Lakewood, N.J. - #18 Mercy College, after hosting the Lions last Thursday, paid a visit to Georgian Court University Friday afternoon in the second game of a home-and-home set between the foes. The Mavericks almost duplicated its margin of victory from a week ago as the visitors topped GCU, 18-9.
Mercy, which upended the royal-and-gold by an 18-10 count in its previous meeting, improves to 6-1 on the year. The Lions fall to 4-2 with the setback.
The victors opened the contest with a commanding 9-1 lead with 15:40 to go in the first half. Georgian Court registered four of the contest's next six tallies to cut its deficit to six (11-5) at the 26:01 mark of the second. However, four unanswered over the next 6:40 for the Mavericks pushed the Mercy cushion to 15-5.
GCU was able to climb to within six once again after a 4-0 run of its own, but that would be the end of the comeback effort as the Mavericks fired off the game's last three scoring efforts to secure the road win.
Mary Mackie (Gr.-Bellport, N.Y.) and
Taylor Bishop (Jr.-West Milford, N.J.) proved to be the offensive stars for Mercy as each secured five goals apiece.
Sabrina Chandler and
Madison Heck recorded two-goal efforts for the Lions in the setback.
Amanda Marino and
Shaine Sauter each had two goals and an assist.
Emma Jacobsen (Sr.-Miller Place, N.Y.), in her 30:00, collected three saves to earn the goalkeeper a win.
Alexis Hahn (4-2) registered six saves in a complete-game performance.
Georgian Court returns to host Felician University this Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in CACC play.
