Philadelphia, Pa. - Georgian Court University, which has yet to floor a full roster this season due to a variety of ailments, portrayed a united front Wednesday afternoon as the Lions knocked off Jefferson on the road, 64-61, to snare its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win of the year in dramatic fashion.
The victory marks the first win for GCU in Jefferson's Gallagher Center since Dec. 18, 2008 win the Lions defeated then-Philadelphia University, 61-55. Georgian Court, winners of three of the last four meetings between the divisional foes, moves to 4-8 (1-4 CACC) on the season. The Rams slip to 9-3 (2-1 CACC) overall.

Completing a back-and-forth initial half knotted at 26-all, the royal-and-gold outscored the home team by seven in the third quarter (18-11) to head into the fourth-and-final frame with a 44-37 advantage. The road warriors increased its cushion to a game-high 11 points after a pair of
Anyssa Fields free throws made the score 48-37 Lions with 9:06 left.
Jefferson refused to relent as the Rams sliced the deficit to a mere two points on two separate occasions, including a late-game, 5-0 surge that left the Lions leading, 63-61, with only 20 seconds to go in regulation. With GCU up by three after a
Tian Addison free throw with four ticks remaining, Jefferson's
Maeve McCann (So.-Drexel Hill, Pa.) launched a potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer, which was blocked by Fields, to secure the signature win for the Lions.
Utilizing a rotation of only six players in the contest, four members of the victors cracked double-digits in the scoring column. Fields and Addison, each logging 40 minutes of action, poured in 19 and 16 points, respectively.
Leighanna Lister recorded her team-best fifth double-double of the year with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Hanna Thrainsdottir added 10 points, seven boards, and a team-high five helpers.
Emily Keehfuss (So.-Yardley, Pa.) recorded 11 points in the setback for Jefferson, followed by
Cassie Murphy (Fr.-Bethlehem, Pa.) with 10.
The Lions return home and prepare to host Bloomfield College Saturday at noon in another CACC clash.
