WORCESTER, Mass. (Dec. 19, 2022) - Georgian Court had a tough task ahead of them traveling to RV/No. 10 Assumption on the last day before the holiday break. The Greyhounds were one of just eight unbeaten teams left in Division II and sport the best defense in Division II. After Monday night Assumption will remain unbeaten as they took down the Lions 72-29.
How it Happened
• The basket must have seemed small on the Georgian Court end. They shot 20.4% from the floor and were 1-10 from three. Assumption meanwhile shot 55% overall sinking 5-11 from deep. The Greyhounds shot better than 50% in three of the four quarters including going 7-9 in the fourth.
• Georgian Court pulled down 14 offensive rebounds to the Greyhounds nine, but lost the overall rebounding battle 38-30.
• GCU lost the ball 21 times and forced 16 turnovers themselves.
• At the outset, the Lions led for much of the first quarter.
Andjela Kremenovic scored on the Lions first possession, a jumper to get GCU ahead 2-0. Assumption didn't get on the board until the 6:42 mark.
• Midway through the quarter,
Savawn Hughes buried a three for a 6-4 lead, and
Jariah Patterson with a pull-up jumper gave the Lions a 9-6 lead.
Imani Gillette with a free throw gave the Lions their largest lead, 10-6, with 2:42 to play in the first.
• Assumption got hot after that though and closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 12-10 after 10 minutes.
• The Greyhounds then scored the first five points of the second quarter before another Kremenovic basket stopped the run at 11-0 with Assumption leading 17-12. Now leading by 10, 26-16, the Greyhounds held the Lions scoreless over the final 3:25 of the half and scored nine unanswered to take a 35-16 lead into the half.
• Assumption, with the number one defense in the country, made life difficult on the Lions. The Greyhounds extended their lead in the second half going 15-23 from the floor and the Lions were never able to catch up.

• The Lions will have to sit with this one for a while. Division II Life in the Balance begins tomorrow. Teams can return to practice Dec. 27 and GCU takes on Jefferson at home Thursday, Dec. 29 at 12 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men.
