Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University, behind eight home runs on the day, casually collected a pair of victories Thursday in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Post University as the Lions move to a perfect 6-0 (17-9 overall) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball action.
Smashing three dingers in a game one, 10-2 (5 inn.) victory over the Eagles, followed with a single-game, season-high five long balls in the 9-2 nightcap triumph, GCU has clubbed an astounding 14 home runs over its last four outings.Â
Brittany Gable (2-for-2, 4 RBI),
Jadalyn Rodriguez (2-for-2),Â
Alyssa Rue (2-for-3) all went deep in the opening-game rout. Gable walked off Post (8-8, 3-3 CACC) with her first collegiate home run (a one-out, three-run shot to center) in leading the Lions to their third-straight mercy rule victory.Â
Mikayla Gilgert continues to highlight the Georgian Court pitching staff as the senior righty moved to 12-4 on the season, permitting two runs (0 ER) on four hits and a pair of free passes (5 K) over five full.
Brianna Koref (Sr.-Springfield, N.J.) suffered the setback for the visitors (4.1 IP, 8 H, 10 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, K).
It was hardly a defensive showcase as the two squads combined for an unsightly eight miscues in the contest.
Adriana Mungo, en route to a perfect 4-for-4 (2 R, 2 RBI) showing, immediately set the tone to start the second contest as the sophomore slugged a home run (4th of season) to right on the very first pitch of the game. Rue and Rodriguez (3-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI) each clubbed their second of the afternoon, while
Kaitlyn Stufft and
Taylor Barraza also joined the fun with back-to-back blasts in the home third.
Rue, with two mighty clouts today, has slugged at least one home run in four straight games, and has recorded six over the sophomore's last eight outings. For Stufft, her long ball brings her CACC lead to 10 on the year as the newly crowned NFCA/Louisville Slugger DII National Player of the Week matched Mungo with a 4-for-4 (3 RBI) showing of her own.
Not to be overlooked,
Sarah Clancy (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) went the distance for her fifth complete game of the season as the sophomore moves to 5-3 in the circle for the royal-and-gold.Â
Jenny Riquelme (So.-Fairfax, Va.) took the defeat (6.0 IP, 14 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 BB, K).
GCU takes to the road Saturday for a CACC clash at Dominican College. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
