Georgian Court Closes Regular-Season Home Slate With Solid Two-Game Sweep of Pace University in East Region Clash

Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University closed out the regular-season home slate in style Wednesday as the Lions proceeded to sweep Pace University, 2-1 and 3-1, for a pair of clutch victories with major implications in the NCAA Division II East Regional rankings.

GCU (33-13) opened the day ranked #3 in the latest regional poll while the Setters (27-14) sit in the #6 slot.

Pace, courtesy of a Brianna Shea (Fr.-Oceanside, Calif.) second inning solo homer, owned an initial 1-0 edge. That lead would hold until the home fourth when Kiara Miekle's triple down the right field line plated Brittany Gable (walk) from first base with the equalizer. GCU snapped the stalemate in the following frame when Kaitlyn Stufft cranked her CACC-leading 16th long ball, a solo shot to left, providing the Lions with the comeback triumph.

Mikayla Gilgert improves to 21-7 in the circle for the royal-and-gold as the senior scattered four hits and a pair of free passes (10 K) in the sensational seven-inning showing. Gisselle Garcia (Fr.-Lemon Grove, Calif.) (15-5) took the tough-luck loss for the Setters (7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 10 K).

The Lions wasted no time in the nightcap as the home team collected two immediate runs in the first inning, courtesy of wild pitch, and a subsequent ribbie ground out off the bat of Taylor Barraza. Leading 2-1 in the fourth, Breanna Brambila (2-for-3) provided some always-appreciated insurance as the freshman backstop laced an RBI double to left-center for her first collegiate RBI.

Sarah Clancy, who earned the victory in Monday's combined perfect-game at the University of the Sciences, picked up right where she left off as the sophomore southpaw spun a nifty four-hitter to move to 9-3 on the season (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K).

Georgian Court closes out the CACC slate Saturday with a visit to Bloomfield College. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
