Lakewood, N.J. -
Alyssa Herrera and
Kiara Meikle each belted a pair of home runs, accounting for four of the Lions' seven long balls on the day, as Georgian Court University snared a pair of victories over visiting Jefferson, 8-0 (5 inn.) and 7-4, in Friday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) softball twin-bill.
GCU, winners of eight-straight outings, remains undefeated in CACC play at 10-0 (21-9 overall) and increases its record at home to a splendid 11-1.
The Lions needed just 1:01 to dismiss the Rams (6-14, 5-5 CACC) in the opener as the royal-and-blue clubbed 12 hits en route to its seventh mercy-rule triumph of the season. A lone run in the first frame, followed by four in the third and a three-spot in the fourth, accounted for the GCU scoring.
Taylor Barraza (2-for-3, 2 RBI),
Brittany Gable (2-for-3, 2 RBI), and Herrera (2-for-3, 2B 3 R, 2 RBI) each went deep in the rout.
Kaitlyn Stufft (1-for-3) and
Adriana Mungo (2-for-3, 2B) also added ribbie knocks.
Mikayla Gilgert moves to 10 games over .500 in the circle as the senior ace goes to 14-4 with the shutout gem (5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K).
Jefferson, thanks to a
Sam Gomez (So.-West Chester, Pa.) solo shot, struck first with a 1-0 lead after one in the nightcap. The surplus did not last long as Meikle crunched a two-run laser over the center field fence in the home half of the second to put the Lions ahead. 2-1. Tied at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Meikle would snap the stalemate as the sophomore scorched a two-run blast to right-center for her first-career multi-homer game.
Jadalynn Rodriguez (2-for-3), the reigning Co-CACC Player of the Week, drilled her fourth of the year with one out in the sixth (solo) while Herrera (2-for-4) creamed a two-run dinger two batters later to increase the Lions' surplus to four (7-3). Mungo finishes the two-game set at a combined 5-for-7 with a 3-for-4 performance in game two.
Sarah Clancy (6-3) recorded the pitching victory with five innings (5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 K) out of the Georgian Court bullpen.
Gianna DeLorenzo (So.-Milltown, N.J.), with losses in both contests, ends the day at 4-7.
Georgian Court hits the road Saturday with another CACC double-dip, this time at the University of the Sciences. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
