No. 16 Bentley Takes Down Lions in Season Opener

WALTHAM, Mass. (Feb. 18, 2023) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse started their season Saturday afternoon in Massachusetts. They traveled to take on No. 16 Bentley in regional action. The Falcons turned things on in the second quarter, outscoring GCU 16-1 in the final 45 minutes of the 19-4 win.

How it Happened
• Bentley nearly doubled the Lions up in shots, 53-27, including a 34-12 advantage in shots on goal.
• GCU turned the ball over 21 times while Bentley lost it just 12.
• The Falcons were almost perfect on clear attempts, making 14-15. Georgian Court was just 11-19.
• On the ground, Bentley held a 43-34 ground ball advantage and won 16-of-27 faceoffs.
• There weren't many odd-man opportunities, but the Lions were 1-4 and Bentley 0-2 with the man advantage.
• Just 79 seconds into the game, Bentley scored the opening goal from Nathan Alviti.
• Justin Iannarone won the ensuing faceoff then scored to tie the game just 15 seconds later.
• Trailing 2-1, Georgian Court got goals from Michael Ventresca and Tallen Smith to take a 3-2 lead with 2:51 to play in the first. 
• Georgian Court nearly made that lead stand up through one, but with just eight seconds to play, Conor Segreti tied the game at three.
• That Segreti goal seemed to get the Falcons going. Segreti then scored again 33 seconds into quarter number two. Those two goals were the first of 11 straight for the Falcons in the second and third periods. 
• Tallen Smith on the man-advantage netted his second of the game from Daniel Burnham midway into the third quarter.
• The Falcons kept GCU off the board in the fourth and scored the final six goals for the 19-4 win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Tallen Smith scored twice including once a man-up.
• Michael Ventresca scored and had a team-high seven shots. 
• Justin Iannarone scored and was 8-21 on the draw with seven ground balls.
• Daniel Burnham added an assist.
• Vincent Guinta, Joe Murphy, TJ Parrett and Brett Bridges all scooped three ground balls. 
• Vincent Burkhart made 15 saves in net.

For the Falcons
• Luke Jaber scored a game-high five goals on 10 shots.
• Nathan Alviti scored four times with three assists.
• Conor Segreti added six points with four goals and two assists.
• Cam Bartolomeo was 12-22 on the faceoff with five ground balls.
• Jackson Tinsley made seven saves. 

News and Notes
• Vincent Guinta picked up his 25th career ground ball.
• Daniel Burnham played his 50th career game as a Lion.
• Justin Iannarone became the second Lion to ever take 500 faceoffs in a career.
