FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Nov. 30, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball finished their nearly week long trip to Florida with a 100-34 loss at No. 22 ranked Nova Southeastern.
How it Happened
• The Sharks finished the game shooting 54% overall and made 42% from downtown while also going 30-35 at the foul line.
• Georgian Court shot just 35%, were 0-2 from three-point range and sank 8-15 from the free throw line.
• Nova did work on the boards, out-rebounding Georgian Court 40-16. That included 15 offensive rebounds.
• Turnovers played a role with the Lions committing 31 and NSU just 15. The Sharks scored 38 points off turnovers.
1st Quarter
• Georgian Court got a steal on the Sharks first possession and a jumper from
Niyell McCargo gave the Lions an early 2-0 lead.
•
Destiny Wallace followed up with a layup, but once NSU took a 6-4 lead, they never trailed again.
• The Sharks used an 18-1 run to turn a 4-2 deficit, into a 20-5 lead with 3:03 left in the frame and were up 18, 26-8, after one.
2nd Quarter
• Similar to the first quarter, Georgian Court made their first shot in the second.
• Unfortunately, that was the only basket they'd make as they went scoreless over the final 9:16.
• Nova Southeastern finished the half scoring the final 28 points and led 56-10 at intermission.
3rd Quarter
• Georgian Court had an excellent shooting quarter in the third going 5-7 from the floor and 2-2 at the line to score 12 points.
• However GCU also turned the ball over 10 times and NSU still outscored the Lions 23-12.
4th Quarter
• Georgian Court scored another 12 points in the fourth.
• The Lions made 4-5 from the field and hit 4-5 from the free throw line.
• On their final possession, the Sharks hit the century mark with a layup on their way to a 100-34 win.
Lion Stat Leaders
•
Niyell McCargo scored a team-best 11 points going 5-12 overall.
•
Karissa Smedley added 10 with a team-high six rebounds along with two blocks and three steals.
•
Destiny Wallace was 2-3 shooting and
Samantha Jones came off the bench for five points.
For the Sharks
• Mercedes Simmons scored a game-high 20 points going 7-10 overall.
• Corina Conley added 15 hitting 3-6 from three with four steals.
• Payton Graber came off the bench to score seven points with eight rebounds and eight assists.
News and Notes
•
Niyell McCargo played in her 30th career game.
• This was the first ever meeting between Georgian Court and Nova Southeastern.
• Georgian Court didn't make a three-pointer for the first time since Jan. 30, 2021 at Nyack. The Lions still won that game 69-62.
• The Lions have given up 100 points in multiple games in the same season for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
