Lions Turned Away By Fifth-Ranked Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, NY (Feb. 21, 2024) - After their season opening win last week over the University of the District of Columbia, Georgian Court faced a difficult task in No. 5 Adelphi. The Panthers got an early led and never trailed, going on to win 19-8. The loss puts the Lions at 1-1 on the season.

How it Happened
• Adelphi got ahead big early and were able to cruise the rest of the way. They led in shots 45-40 putting 33 on net to GCU's 21 on target.
• The Lions were the better team on faceoffs winning 19-of-30.
• Part of GCU's problem was turnovers, losing the ball 20 times and seven failed clears.
• Ground ball numbers were also even with GCU holding a slight 28-27 advantage. 
• There were just three total penalties in the game, GCU took one and Adelphi two. 
First Quarter
• Adelphi started the scoring less than two minutes into the game. Brian Harinski scored 1:43 seconds in for a 1-0 lead.
• The Lions spotted the Panthers three more in the first 5:03 of the game. Harinski added a second an AU was up 4-0 just over five minutes in.
• Georgian Court got one of the goals back as Brett Bridges lit the lamp.
• That was the only goal for GCU in the first though and Adelphi added three more, including one in the final seconds to lead 7-1 after 15 minutes.
Second Quarter
• Adelphi added to their total 66 seconds into the second. Two more goals, one on the man-advantage gave the Panthers a 10-1 lead.
• Like the first, Georgian Court scored just once in the second. This time from Matt Dorrian. Tallen Smith picked up his second assist of the game.
• The Panthers popped in two more and again scored with less than 30 seconds taking a 12-2 lead at the half.
Third Quarter
• It took Adelphi a little bit to get going in the third, but they scored in quick succession after that. They got their first of the half just over four minutes in.
• They padded the lead with two goals just 12 seconds apart, going up 15-2. 
Millan Webster struck with 6:28 to play in the period for his second goal of the season. 
• Adelphi added two more goals and Vincent Burns hit iron keeping a Lions goal out of the net. With one quarter to play Adelphi led 17-3. 
Fourth Quarter
• The Panthers punched one less than a minute into the fourth.
• Following a Burkhart save, James Sanford took a Vincent Burns pass and buried it for the Lions fourth goal of the game. 
• An offsides gave the Lions a man-up opportunity and power play specialist Joe Zerr took advantage. He scored his 14th man-up goal setting a new career record for the Lions. 
• Shortly after, Matt Dorrian picked up his second goal of the game. 
• The goals were coming furiously for the Lions. AJ Bratton scored following by another from Bridges 70 seconds later. 
• Time eventually ran out though as the Lions fell, 19-8. 

Lion Stat Leaders
Brett Bridges scored twice on four shots.
Tallen Smith collected a pair of assists.
Matt Dorrian picked up a pair of second-half goals.
Justin Iannaronewas 9-15 on faceoffs with six ground balls.
Garrett Kenny won 10-15 draws.
Vincent Burkhart made 14 saves in goal. 

For the Panthers
• Logan Tucker totaled nine points with three goals and six assists.
• Eamon Hall scored a game-high five goals.
• Brian Harinski and Ryan Bauco each had two goals and an assist.
• Michael Zecchini won 7-of-16 faceoffs.
• Dylan Renner made 12 saves allowing six goals. 

News and Notes
Justin Iannarone grabbed career faceoff win number 500. 
Joe Zerr's man-up goal set a new Lions record for most in a career. 
Jordan Frank scooped ground ball number 40. 
• Georgian Court outscored Adelphi 5-2 in the quarter and ended the game scoring four straight. They had just three goals entering the fourth. 
• This is the third straight year these teams have met with Adelphi now taking all three.

• Georgian Court is back on the field this weekend. They stay on the road and take on St. Thomas Aquinas in Sparkill, NY with an early morning 11 am start time.
