Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Georgian Court Drops Spirited Affair vs. Holy Family

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Feb. 6, 2024) - On an emotional evening, Georgian Court Women's Basketball left everything on the court, but came up short against Holy Family, 60-48. The team had their best crowd of the season as they were selling t-shirts and bracelets and raising money for their teammate, Paula Perez-Fabregas who is back home in Spain under going cancer treatment.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court shot 35% for the game, but it was still better than Holy Family who shot just 30% overall.
• The Tigers though hit five three-pointers to the Lions one.
• HFU was also 21-28 at the foul line with the Lions going just 3-9.
• On the glass, Holy Family came down with 46 to the Lions 39.
• Turnovers were a problem for both teams as the Tigers lost it 20 times and GCU 19.
• In the paint, the Lions scored 36 of their 48 points.
First Quarter
• Georgian Court got off to a quick start scoring four straight for an early lead.
• The lead stayed for just 2:21 though into the first though. Holy Family used a 7-0 run to turn an 8-6 Lion lead into a 13-8 Tiger lead and they never trailed again.
• The Lions did keep things close most of the game. Leah Snisky hit on a jumper with 33 seconds left to pull the Lions within six after one.
Second Quarter
• The second started with a Snisky layup and a Safiatu Kolliego three-ball putting the Lions down just one, 20-19.
• With 5:31 to play in the half, Jessenia Edwards again made it a one-point game, 26-25, with a jumper.
• Georgian Court though didn't score again the rest of the half and Holy Family used an 8-0 run the rest of the frame to hold a nine-point lead, 34-25 at the break.
Third Quarter
• Georgian Court fought hard and got back into it on the defensive end.
• Samantha Jones got it started with a turnover and fast-break layup.
• Holy Family missed their first 10 shots of the third quarter and turned the ball over three times, begging the Lions to get back in.
• Georgian Court was able to bring the lead down to three, but they were just 3-11 themselves and didn't take advantage enough of the nearly six minute HFU scoring drought.
• Holy Family finally found some offense and it came in the form of Jessica Riepe. She went 4-5 from three in a 1:55 stretch and by the end of it, the Lions were down 11, 48-37.
• Kolliegbo secured an old-fashioned three-point-play and Georgian Court was down eight, 48-40, with one quarter left to play.
Fourth Quarter
• The two teams traded baskets in the fourth and that did the Lions no favors in their comeback attempt.
• Holy Family was just 2-11 from the floor in the quarter, but were 8-11 at the free throw line as they were able to put the Lions away, 60-48.

• Georgian Court dropped both games of the season series to Holy Family for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
• The Lions shooting woes from three continue. They've made zero or one three-pointer in each of the last four games and just two total.

• The Lions well selling Paula Strong T-shirts and bracelets and would like to thank everyone who came out to show support for sophomore Paula Perez-Fabregas and her fight against bone cancer. If anyone is interested in buying a shirt or bracelet, stop by the athletic office.
