Lions Softball Tripped Up At Molloy

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY (March 24, 2023) - Georgian Court Softball got back on the field after rain cancelled their games Saturday. They were in Rockville Centre for a nonconference doubleheader against Molloy. In the battle of Lions, Molloy got the better of Georgian Court sweeping GCU 8-0, 4-3. Georgian Court falls to 9-13 overall.

Game 1 - Molloy 8, Georgian Court 0 - 6 Innings
How it Happened

• GCU managed just four hits, all singles. Molloy nine hits with a double, triple and a home run.
• Georgian Court batters struck out five times without walking.
• GCU made two errors and allowed four unearned runs.
• Neither team was able to push a run across the first two innings. 
• GCU had their best chance in the top of the second getting a leadoff single and putting two on with two out, but a strikeout ended the inning.
• Molloy broke through in the third putting up five runs. A two-run home run capped the frame.
• Georgian Court had one more base runner the rest of the game.
• Molloy finished the game early with a bases loaded triple scoring three unearned runs.

Georgian Court Stat Leaders
• Charlie Mae Sinderud and Gabriella Aleman had a hit in two at bats.
• Cheyenne Jackson and Adriana Mungo finished 1-3.
• Janelle Blaszka got the start in the circle and allowed eight runs on nine hits.

For Molloy
• Chrissie Huhn tripled and drove in four runs.
• Alex Burns drove in two with a home run.
• Mae Savage singled twice in three at bats and scored twice.
• Sophia Mariottini pitched all six shutout innings while striking out five.

How it Happened

• Georgian Court outhit Molloy 8-6 in game two. 
• Three of Molloy's six hits were doubles, while GCU had just one extra-base hit.
• GCU struck out six times and drew three walks. Molloy neither struck out or drew a walk.
• The Lions scored in the opening inning, putting up two runs on four hits. Cheyenne Jackson led off the game and stole second. She scored on Adriana Mungo's infield single to short.
• With two outs, Charlee Mae Sinderud drove in Jadalynn Rodriguez with a single putting GCU up 2-0.
• The lead didn't last long as Molloy answered with three in the bottom of the winner.
• The first four all reached base with a two-RBI double tying the game. Another double gave Molloy a 3-2 lead after one.
• Brittany Gable led off the fourth inning with a double and scored on a passed ball to tie the game at three.
• Molloy took the lead back for good in the fifth inning. A two-out RBI single plated a run and that was all Molloy needed for a 4-3 win.

• Adriana Mungo finished 2-4 with an RBI.
• Cheyenne Jackson singled, stole a base and scored.
• Gabriella Aleman reached base all three times with two singles and a walk.
• Brittany Gable drove two hits and scored.
• Julia Lapp pitched six innings allowing four runs on six hits.

For Molloy
• Alex Burns drove in two runs with a double.
• Chrissie Huhn singled, stole two bases and scored twice.
• Natalie Moussa got the win throwing the final six innings allowing just one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts.

News and Notes
• After a GCU sweep last year, the all-time series was tied at six. Molloy has now taken an 8-6 lead.
• Cheyenne Jackson stole her 20th base of the season.
• Janelle Blaszka got her 100th career strikeout.

• Georgian Court is off for the next week, plus. They'll take the field again Tuesday, April 2 against Felician.
