Women's Lacrosse Drops One Goal Game vs. Bloomsburg

LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 6, 2024) - In a driving rainstorm throughout the game, Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse and Bloomsburg were in a tight battle. Neither team led by more than three at any point and it was the Huskies who came out on top by one, 11-10.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court led in the shot department, 29-25 and in shots on goal 20-16.
• The Lions did however turn the ball over more, 23-20.
• GCU was the better team on clears, converting 26-28. Bloomsburg made 20-26.
• The Huskies scooped 34 ground balls to the Lions 29, but GCU won 15-25 draw controls. 
• GCU made 3-8 free position shots. The Huskies hit on 3-6.
First Quarter
• Georgian Court got the scoring started with Isabel Raimondi doing the work herself for 1-0 lead less than a minute in.
• Bloomsburg responded popping two in, including one with the extra attacker.
• The Lions finished up the first scoring twice. Raimondi scored her second off of a feed from Riley O'Connor.
Gianna Nardini then gave the Lions the lead back with a free-position goal with just under four minutes left to play.
• The Huskies found the equalizer though with 1:17 left to get to the second tied at three.
Second Quarter
• The second quarter saw nine of the 21 goals scored.
• The teams traded the first two as Remi Reinhardt scored on the power play. It was another free-position goal for the Lions.
• Tied at four, Georgian Court hit two back-to-back. Caitlin Petrellese scored the first and Nardini, another free-position goal and this time woman-up gave the Lions a 6-4 advantage.
• Bloomsburg came back to tie, with a woman-up, free-position goal of their own.
Riley O'Connor gave GCU a brief lead back. She forced a turnover in the offensive zone, picked up the ground ball scored buried it for a 7-6 GCU lead.
• Bloomsburg finished the half scoring two in the final 1:35. The game-tying goal came on a free-position, woman-up goal. The final was a broken play as the Lions turned the ball over in the offensive end. Kate Roberts ran up the field as the clock was winding down. She dished to Kayla Stressman who scored with just three seconds to play in the half.
• The Huskies finished the half on a 4-1 run and an 8-7 lead into the half.
Third Quarter
• Things slowed down in the second half with just six total goals.
• The rain, which didn't let up all afternoon was a factor making for slick playing conditions and the wind was starting to pick up more in the second half as well.
• Bloomsburg, who finished the half on a 4-1 run, made it a 6-1 run scoring the first two in the third to take their largest lead, 10-7.
• The Lions got one back as Bryleigh Tejchman scored to cut the lead down to 10-8.
• Neither team scored the final 6:15. The Lions failed to cash in on two free-position shots, but they did kill off a 60-second green card penalty right before the period ended.
Fourth Quarter
• Both teams scored in the first three minutes of the fourth. Remi Reinhardt on a power play scored to make it a one-goal game.
• It didn't stay that way long as just 1:24 later, Bloomsburg got the two-goal lead right back.
• The Huskies defense didn't allow much for the Lions in the fourth and GCU helped them out with six turnovers.
• The Lions were finally able to get back to within one as Raimondi scored her third with 1:54 remaining.
• Bloomsburg won the important next draw control and GCU took a penalty giving the Huskies a power-play and a fresh 90 on the shot clock.
• GCU needed a turnover and got one as Caitlin Petrellese jarred the ball loose and grabbed the ground ball. She then took a big hit and a green card meant 10-on-10 lacrosse for the final minute.
• In the closing seconds, the Lions couldn't put a shot on net as the Huskies swarming defense made one final stand to hold on for the 11-10 win.

Lion Stat Leaders
Isabel Raimondi scored three goals and grabbed two grounders.
Riley O'Connor picked up three points with a goal and two assists.
Gianna Nardini and Remi Reinhardt each scored twice. Reinhardt also won nine draw controls and picked up three ground balls.
Caitlin Petrellese scored once, caused three turnovers and scooped five ground balls.
Natalie Moradian made five saves in goal.

For the Huskies
• Lauren Foley made some big saves, finishing with 10. 
• Kayla Stressman scored two goals with an assist and three ground balls.
• Madison Coyle and Amanda Stoll each had two goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Coyle also won five draws. 

News and Notes
Riley O'Connor moved to sixth all-time in points for the Lions.
Caitlin Petrellese picked up her 30th career ground ball.
Kelsey Naclerio moved to ninth all-time in caused turnovers.
• The Lions remain winless all-time against the Huskies and fall to 0-5.

Up Next
• Georgian Court hits the road again this Saturday. They take on Southern Connecticut State at 1 p.m.
