Lions Set Single-Game Record 28 Goals In Regular Season Finale

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 24, 2024) - The goals came fast and furious for Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse and when it was all said and done, the Lions set a new program record in their 2024 regular season finale, scoring 28 goals and defeating Felician 28-7. The win wraps up the regular season for the Lions at 9-7 as they finish 6-2 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• Offensively, the game was all Georgian Court. They dominated from the jump and led in shots 76-24.
• Faceoffs heavily favored the Lions at 27-9. 
• GCU forced 20 Felician turnovers and the Golden Falcons were just 15-26 on clear attempts. The Lions lost the ball 11 times and were 17-18 on clears.
• GCU hit on all three man-up opportunities. 
• They were the quicker team on the ground as well, picking up 62 ground balls to Felician's 23.
First Quarter
• Needing two goals to tie the GCU single-season mark for goals scored, Brett Bridges got it out of the way quickly. He scored the first two goals of the game just 21 seconds part and four minutes into the contest.
• The Lions shut out the Golden Falcons in the first 7-0.
• After Bridges' two goals, Tyler Burns and James Sanford scored.
• Bridges then set the new record with his 45th goal of the season. He scored his 46th two minutes after that.
• Millan Webster capped off the frame scoring with just six seconds to play.
Second Quarter
• Tallen Smith and Harrison Jordan got the scoring going in the second for the Lions who pushed the lead to 9-0.
• After Felician got on the board with their first, Garrett Kenny won the faceoff and raced down the field, beating the keeper for the Lions 10th goal.
• Felician got three more in the second, including one just seven seconds before the half.
• Bridges and Tyler Burns each scored twice more in the frame. Sanford, Joe Zerr and Harrison Jordan each tallied one.
Third Quarter
• The Lions scored the first five goals in the second half. Smith netted the first two, one on the man-advantage.
• Doug Mackenzie then scored man-up and was followed by Millan Webster and Bridges with goals.
• After the Golden Falcons reached five goals, Brodie Seaborn gave the Lions a 23-5 lead heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
• No surprise, there were more Lions goals in the fourth. Sanford scored in the first minute
• Joe Zerr connected for two, including one man-up as the Lions tied the record for goals in a game.
• With 8:40 left to play, the record fell as Harrison Jordan beat the keeper for his third and the Lions 27th.
• Davin Baldock added one more for good measure and the horn finally sounded on the 28-7 Lions win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Brett Bridges led all scorers with seven goals and eight points. He had four ground balls as well.
• James Sanford scored four times.
• Harrison Jordan, Tallen Smith and Joe Zerr each had three goals and an assist.
• Justin Iannarone was 10-15 on faceoffs with seven ground balls.
• Garrett Kenny won 9-12 with six ground balls and scored a goal.
• Vincent Burns and Kyle Harms each picked up five ground balls.
• Vincent Burkhart wasn't tested much but got the win making seven saves.
• Joe Murphy caused two turnovers. 

For the Golden Falcons
• Jabes Escalante scored three times with an assist.
• Jayden Rios was 9-22 on faceoffs and scored a goal with five ground balls.
• Luke Dayton scored and caused a turnover.
• Landon Santangelo made 12 saves in goal.

News and Notes
• The 28 goals are the most by GCU in a game. They recently matched their previous high of 26 against Holy Family.
• Brett Bridges is the new single-season record holder for goals scored. He's at 49 and counting.
• Kyle Harms and Garrett Kenny each got to 50 ground balls on the season. They're just the fifth and sixth Lions to ever reach 50 ground balls in a single-season.
• Michael Schone caused his 30th career turnover. 
• Tyler Burns scored his 50th career point. 
• Justin Iannarone played in his 60th career game. 
• Georgian Court remains unbeaten against Felician, improving to 6-0. They've scored 20 or more goals in four of the six games. 

Up Next
• The win earns the Lions the No. 3 seed in the CACC Tournament. That's enough to get a bye into the semifinal round. That game takes place Wednesday, May 1 against No. 2 seed Chestnut Hill.
