Softball Bows Out of CACC Tournament in Quarterfinals

WILMINGTON, Del. (April 27, 2024) - Georgian Court Softball had an early exit in the 2024 CACC Tournament. The Lions, as the number six seed played their quarterfinal round at the third-seeded Goldey-Beacom Lightning. GCU needed to win two, but the Lightning jumped on Georgian Court early to eliminate them with a 10-2 loss in five innings. The season ends with Georgian Court 20-25 overall. They were 12-10 in CACC play.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court had just two hits in five innings - a pair of solo home runs from Brittany Gable.
• Lightning starter Abigail O'Shields shut the rest of the lineup down not allowing a hit or issuing a walk.
• GBC struck for 10 runs on 12 hits. Three of those 12 hits were for extra bases.
• Both teams made an error in the field. The Lions allowed one unearned run.
• Goldey-Beacom scored in all four innings they came to bat.
• After GCU went down 1-2-3 in the first, the Lightning scored twice in the bottom of the inning. A one-out walk and a throwing error put two in scoring position for one of the premier RBI leaders in the CACC Bryn Bohmann. She doubled over the third base bag and gave GBC an early 2-0 lead. The Lions ended the inning with a double play to escape further damage.
• The Lightning added one more in the second as three straight singles plated a run.
• Georgian Court got their first run and first hit as Brittany Gable homered deep to left on an 0-2 pitch, bringing the lead down to 3-1.
• Goldey-Beacom responded in a big way putting up three more in the third. Three straight singles started the inning and led to the first run. With two outs, the Lightning got a two-RBI single for a 6-1 lead.
• GBC scored four times in the fourth helped by two doubles and a two-RBI single getting to double-figures.
• Needed two runs to extend the game, the Lions got just one, on Gable's second home run of the day. This one to dead center. A fly out ended the game after five, 10-2.
