PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Feb. 22, 2025) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball played their penultimate game of the season Saturday afternoon. The Lions dug themselves a huge hole early and could not dig out in a 70-31 loss to Jefferson.
How it Happened
• Jefferson finished the game shooting 46.7% overall, but were just 1-9 from three. They also hit 13-16 at the free throw line.
• Georgian Court struggled shooting 23.6% overall, 3-18 from three and 2-6 from the stripe.
• Jefferson won the rebounding battle 42-34.
• The Rams forced 16 GCU turnovers while giving it away just six times themselves. Jefferson led 17-3 in points off turnovers.
1st Quarter
• A disastrous first half started with Jefferson scoring the first seven points.
• GCU got on the board with an Imani Gillete layup at the 6:09 mark.
• Georgian Court didn't score again until there were just 15 seconds left in the quarter.
Karissa Smedley made a layup.
• That though came after 10 straight Ram points.
• Jefferson also beat the buzzer with a tip-in and led 19-4 through 10 minutes.
2nd Quarter
• Things went from bad to worse in the second quarter.
• Jefferson scored the first eight points in the second and had already extended their lead to 20.

Niyell McCargo's jumper with 4:45 to play in the half were Georgian Court's only points in the frame.
• The Rams scored the final 12 in the half and had a commanding 39-6 lead at the half.
3rd Quarter
• Georgian Court picked it up in the third.
• They were 7-16 in the period and 2-5 from three.

Julia Whesper and
Destiny Wallace combined for nine points in 1:57 as the Lions drained four straight baskets.

Karissa Smedley finished the quarter with an and-one, but despite how well GCU played in the third, they couldn't make up any ground as Jefferson scored 18, helped out by going 5-6 at the line.
4th Quarter
• The Lions shooting woes returned in the fourth as GCU went 3-12 overall.
• The two teams traded points as the start of the frame, but then the Lions went cold.
• After
Jade Dickson's free throw at the 5:29 mark, Jefferson kept them off the board until the final play of the game.

Destiny Wallace hit a three on the final shot to finish off a 70-31 loss.

Destiny Wallace each scored seven points.
• Wallace was 3-4 from the floor with three rebounds while Smedley grabbed six rebounds.

Julia Whesper scored five with four rebounds.

Niyell McCargo had a team-best seven boards.
For the Rams
• Emma Kuczynski scored 17 going 6-11 overall.
• Sam Yencha approached a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.
• Cassie Murphy added eight points and nine boards.
