Women's Basketball Picks Up Third Straight Win, Defeating Bloomfield 72-66

BLOOMFIELD, NJ (Feb. 8, 2025) - For the first time in more than two years, Georgian Court Women's Basketball has won three straight. The Lions picked up their third in a row Saturday playing at Bloomfield. GCU's offense was rolling, especially in the first and third quarters where they really put the game away. The Bear defense couldn't slow the Lions down who earned a 72-66 win. The win puts the Lions at 6-6 in the CACC this season.

How it Happened
• Through the first three quarters, Georgian Court was shooting near 50%. That fell in the final frame and the Lions finished the afternoon at 39.4% overall.
• The Lions hit 6-22 from three and 14-20 at the foul line. Bloomfield's slash line showed 35.2%/24%/66.7%.

Niyell McCargo scored 10 points in the first and GCU shot 56% overall.
2nd Quarter
• As much as the shots were falling in the first quarter, both teams went pretty quiet in the second.
• Once again, the Bears were able to bring the Lions lead down to three, 25-22, with 7:22 left to play in the half.
• And again, GCU answered to extend their lead. First with a McCargo jumper to make it a two-possession game, then back to back buckets from Stanescu and Julia Whesper as GCU pushed the lead to 10, 32-22.
• In the closing seconds of the half, Imani Gillette put the Lions up 11 with a layup, but the Bears went back down  the floor to hit a layup and the half ended with Georgian Court in front by nine, 36-27.
3rd Quarter
• The Lions got off to another good start in the third, hitting 7-11 and bringing the lead back into double-figures.

• Lovelock squashed that hope quick though answering right away with a three-pointer of her own.
