Lions Score Four Goals in Final Four Minutes to Secure Third Straight Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ma. (March 1, 2025) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse needed an epic comeback to pick up their third straight win. GCU scored four times in the final four minutes to snatch victory from the claws of defeat, 13-11, over American International and improve to 3-2 on the season.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court dominated most stats, especially faceoffs. The Lions won 23-of-28 faceoffs.
• They were up in shots 48-29 and 35-30 on groundballs.
• Turnover numbers were even at 22. The Lions were 28-30 on clears and AIC just 21-30.
• The Yellow Jackets kept a clean sheet and weren't called for a single penalty. They were also 3-3 with the extra-man on Lion penalties.
1st Quarter
• The two teams traded goals throughout the first.
• Vincent Burns and Brett Bridges each scored for the Lions.
• GCU took a late penalty and the Yellow Jackets capitalized to lead 3-2 after one.
2nd Quarter
• GCU started the second with another penalty and again AIC cashed in. They took a 4-2 lead at the 9:33 mark.
• That was the Yellow Jackets only goal of the frame though.
• Doug Mackenzie scored and that started a 4-0 run for the Lions through the end of the half.
• Harrison Jordan tied the game and Matt Dorrian gave teh Lions the lead.
• With less than a minute to play, Millan Webster struck GCU was up two, 6-4 at the break.
3rd Quarter
• The Lions made it five straight to start the second half. Webster scored again and GCU had their largest lead, 7-4.
• Both teams swapped goals again. Mackenzie scored twice and with less than two minutes in the third, it was still a Lions three-goal lead.
• American International scored twice in the final two minutes, cutting the lead down to one, 9-8.
4th Quarter
• American International kept their momentum up to start the fourth, tying the game with 12:47 to play.
• The game remained tied until the Yellow Jackets struck again with 7:25 left to take the lead.
• A minute later it was a two-goal lead, 11-9, with 6:20 left.
• Georgian Court was in trouble down two with just four minutes to play.
• Jordan got the Lions closer and just 33 seconds later, Doug Mackenzie tied it.
• Daniel Devitt won the ensuing faceoff and after two blocked shots and an AIC save, Mackenzie was there again to reclaim the lead, 12-11 with 1:56 remaining.
• Devitt again won the faceoff, but turned it over. The Lion defense didn't allow an AIC shot though as Michael Schone caused a turnover of his own and Max Dennington was there for the ground ball.
• GCU pushed forwarded and Brodie Seaborn put the game away scoring with 26 seconds left to secure the win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Devitt was a man on a mission in the faceoff circle. He won 21-24 and picked up 12 groundballs.
• Doug Mackenzie scored five goals and dished out two assists. He also grabbed four groundballs and caused three turnovers. 
• Harrison Jordan scored twice and added three assists.
• Millan Webster chipped in two goals.
• Brodie Seaborn and Brett Bridges each had a goal and two assists. Seaborn also secured three groundballs and three caused turnovers.
• Vincent Burkhart made eight saves in goal.

For the Yellow Jackets
• Logan Dobrowski made 14 saves in goal, under a barrage of shots.
• Jordan Boyenko scored four goals.
• Ryan Levis grabbed four groundballs and caused three turnovers.
• Cole Gaudet scored three times. 

News and Notes
• Max Dennington became the third Lion to ever cause 50 career turnovers.
• Vincent Burns scored his 25th career goal.
• Vincent Burkhart played in his 40th game in goal.
• Daniel Devitt's 21 faceoff wins are in the Lions all-time top-10 for a single game.
