Lions, Coach Pourby Pick Up First Wins

BOWIE, MD (March 1, 2025) - It didn't take long for new Georgian Court Head Coach Mikayla Pourby to earn her first win. The Lions needed only six innings in game one to defeat Bowie State, 11-3,  giving Pourby her first career win. GCU went on to drop the second end of the doubleheader, 7-3, splitting in the season opener.

Game 1 - Georgian Court 11, Bowie State 6 - 6 Innings
How it Happened

• Georgian Court racked up 14 hits, three for extra bases.
• The Lions worked out of trouble as the Bulldogs collected nine hit and two walks, but just scored three times.
• GCU struck out seven Bulldogs and fanned just four times at the plate themselves.
• Georgian Court started the scoring early. Reagan Winn's sacrifice fly scored Cheyenne Jackson with the game's first run in the first.
• An inning later, Brooklyn Ragland crossed the plate on a double steal. 
• Bowie cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double.
• The Lions broke it up open though in the third with RBI singles from Ragland and Gabriella Aleman.
Kaylin Curro and Ella Moore tacked on in the fourth with RBI hits of their own. Curro scored two more with a bases loaded double in the fifth.
• A pair of run-scoring outs brought the Lions their final two runs. 
Janelle Blaszka ended the game with a 1-2-3 sixth, striking out the final two hitters.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Blaszka tossed all six innings allowing three runs, two earned on nine hits with seven strikeouts.
Cheyenne Jackson scored three times, singled, tripled, and stole a base.
Kaylin Curro drove in three runs, going 2-4.
Reagan Winn was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Brooklyn Ragland reached base three times with two singles, a walk and two runs batted in.

For the Bulldogs
• Ariana Ellerson finished 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
• Sydney Edmond had two hits and two runs scored.
• Lindsey George started. She allowed two run on three hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Game 2 - Bowie State 7, Georgian Court 3
How it Happened

• Georgian Court's offense went cold with just four hits. Bowie State again knocked nine hits.
• The Bulldogs were able to overcome three errors in the field.
• Lion pitchers walked 10 and the Bulldogs stole seven bases.
• Bowie State scored twice in the first on an infield single and never trailed.
• They tacked on in the third and fourth with RBI singles before GCU cut the lead in half in the fifth.
Brooklyn Ragland's bases loaded double scored Charlee Mae Sinderud and Reagan Winn.
• Bowie got the runs back scoring one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Lia DeMaio's sacrifice fly in the seventh wasn't enough for the Lions who dropped game two.

Lion Stat Leaders
Julianna Kellogg was 2-3 with a run scored.
• Brookklyn Ragland drove in a pair of runs.
Julia Lapp got the start and allowed four runs on eight hits in four innings with two strikeouts.
Lillian Noyes finished the game allowing two three runs in two innings.

For the Bulldogs
• Ryalee Dillard pitched all seven innings allowing three runs, one earned on four hits with four strikeouts.
• Presleigh Braxton was 4-4 with three runs scored and three stolen bases.
• Jayla Hill walked three times, stole three bases and scored a run.

News and Notes
• In game one, all nine starters picked up a hit.
• All nine also either scored or drove in a run.
Cheyenne Jackson picked up her 30th career hit.

• Georgian Court plays their home opener Tuesday, March 4 as they host West Chester at 1 pm.
