Millan Webster Sends Men's Lacrosse to CACC Tournament Finals With Overtime Winner

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 30, 2025) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse senior Millan Webster played the hero Wednesday afternoon. In front of a capacity crowd, his overtime goal gave Georgian Court a 13-12 win over No. 3 seed Chestnut Hill and propelled the Lions into the CACC Tournament Championship game this Saturday.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court's final numbers on faceoffs look excellent, a 20-8 advantage, but Chestnut Hill got better as the game went on after winning just one in the first half.
• Each team turned the ball over 15 times and failed on four clearance attempts.
• Chestnut Hill got off more shots than GCU, 46-44, but the Lions put more on net, 29-23.
• Both teams found success on their power play opportunities. The Lions were 2-4 and Chestnut Hill converted all three.
1st Quarter
• Georgian Court couldn't have asked for a better start. Brett Bridges got things started with a goal less than two minutes in.
• James Sanford tacked on before Bridges scored his second and Tyler Burns made it 4-0 Lions at the 6:30 mark.
• Chestnut Hill kept things close, scoring their first goal at the 5:25 mark and cut the lead in half with a man-up goal.
• The Griffins took a penalty in the closing seconds and the Lions ran out the clock with a 4-2 lead and a man-up chance to start the second.
2nd Quarter
• To start the second, the Lions went to their power play specialist, Joe Zerr, who brought the lead back to three, 5-2, 24 seconds into the period.
• The Griffins got the goal back two minutes later, but then GCU went on a run.
• They scored three straight, getting another goal from Zerr one from Webster and finally one more from Sanford for an 8-3 lead with less than two minutes to play.
• Chestnut Hill built some momentum going into the half with a goal with 28 seconds left and trailed 8-4 at the break.
3rd Quarter
• The Griffins took that momentum and ran with it. They scored two quick goals and it was suddenly an 8-6 game with 11:32 to play in the third.
• That was all the scoring in the period though.
• Both goaltenders made four saves in the frame and the four-goal halftime lead was a two-goal lead after three, 8-6.
4th Quarter
• The floodgates immediately opened though in the fourth. After a two-goal third, it was a 10-goal fourth quarter.
• It started with Zerr scoring his third of the game and Bridges following suit just 42 seconds later as the Lions regained their four goal lead back, 10-8.
• Midway through the period, Chestnut Hill again made it a two-goal game, 10-8.
• Bridges then with an unbelievable individual effort added some cushion scoring his fourth of the game. He intercepted a pass in the offensive zone and had a free run at the net and didn't miss, putting the Lions ahead 11-8.
• Chestnut Hill answered though with two more goals to make it a one-score game, 11-10.
• The all important face off was won by Georgian Court and picked up by Joe Murphy. With that possession, the Lions got a goal from Matt Dorrian, putting them back up two, 12-10.
• In the final minute, Chestnut Hill was on the power play again. They scored man-up just seven seconds into the penalty and trailed by one with 40 seconds left.
• Desperately needing a faceoff win, the Griffins got it and scored to tie the game with just four seconds to play to send the game to overtime.
Overtime
• In the overtime period, all it took was one shot.
• Georgian Court won the faceoff and had possession first.
• Chestnut Hill's defense didn't the Lions much room for anything.
• With the shot clock winding down, Millian Webster pushed his way towards the net, shot low and scored, with just two seconds on the shot clock, hitting the game winner and sending the Lions to the CACC Tournament Championship.

On his thoughts following the win to send Georgian Court to the CACC Tournament Finals

• It feels great, but I think my first thought was "Saturday". Saturday is what I've been waiting for all year. What we've all been waiting for all year and I think we're ready for it.

On what Coach Hover said before the final play
• He just wanted to keep us composed, keep calm. I think we did a good job of that. We kept pushing through.

On the team keeping their composure after Chestnut Hill tied the game
• All year we've been used to being uncomfortable. I think that we're great at seeking discomfort and being resilient in those moments.

Coach Mickey Hover
On what he said to the team in the timeout before the final goal

• I didn't do much. They're a good group. We gave them two options to start. It was pretty simple. We're going to have to get to 12 yards and get a great shot. Be patient. I give them all the credit in the world for following that plan. I didn't want to over complicate it.

On the team keeping their composure after Chestnut Hill tied the game
• It's what we do in practice. It's the preparations we take in practice. We had a good talk yesterday in terms of preparation for the game. I think our guys are veterans and that resiliency showed through. Playing a really tough schedule prepares us for these moments where it means something. I couldn't give any more credit to the team. And I mean the whole team. Everybody works their butt off in practice and that's what we want so that in these moments they're ready.

On what he said after regulation to prepare his team for overtime
• I had to refresh myself because it's been so long since we played an overtime game. We talked about it yesterday about "these are the overtime rules. We haven't had this". We went through all those situations whether it was up-by-one, down-by-one, five minutes left, etc. They really listened and did an awesome job. We were prepared because we do a lot of these things in practice.
