Lions Start 2026 with a Win

Waterbury, CT. (Jan.3rd, 2026) -After a game with 12 lead changes, the Lions secured a 69-60 victory against Post.

1st Quarter
•It was a slow start for both teams in Waterbury, CT, on Saturday, as neither scored in the first three minutes of the game.
Jade Dickson scored a layup to put the Lions on the board.
• Scoring went back and forth in the first quarter, and GCU entered the second down three.
• Although the Lions trailed going into the second, they shot 30% better than the Eagles in the first. 

2nd Quarter
Niyell McCargo knocked down a jumper, and Jade Dickson followed with a layup to put the Lions ahead.  
• The Lions led by as much as five in the last minute. 
• The Post Eagles tied the game in the final minute, sending it into halftime even.

Third Quarter
• The Lions strung together several plays to take the lead.
Imani Gillette sparked the run with a jumper followed by a layup.
Karissa Smedley was in complete control, converting a layup for her 15th of the day.
• The Lions went scoreless over the final two minutes of the third quarter, allowing the Eagles to reclaim the lead. The Eagles led by three. 

Fourth Quarter
• Despite starting the quarter behind, the Lions regained the lead quickly. 
• Georgian Court outscored the Eagles 21-9 in the last 10 minutes. 
• GCU shot 66.7% compared to the Eagles 18.8%. 

Lion Stat Leaders
Karrisa Smedley scored 25 points, had 12 rebounds, and five assists. 
Imani Gillette had 15 points.
Samantha Jones had 10 points. 

For the Eagles
Alyssa Rossignol had 24 points.
Tiara Tyson had 10 points. 
Jasmine Day-Cox had 10 points.

The Lions return on Tuesday at home to face Goldey-Beacom at 12 pm.
