Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lacrosse Season Starts With Loss at Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse went on the road to start their 2026 season taking on No. 17 ranked Mercy. It was a defensive struggle at the outset, but the Mavericks offense eventually picked up and held down Georgian Court in a 16-6 Mercy win.

How it Happened
• Mercy was on the attack for much of the afternoon. They got off 42 shots, 30 on goal. Georgian Court put 18 of their 26 shots on cage.
• Turnovers were a big problem for Georgian Court. They lost the ball 21 times, 13 coming in the opening half. Six of those turnover came on failed clear attempts.
• The Lions weren't doing themselves any favors in the faceoff circle. They won just 9-of-23.
• Mercy cashed in big time with the extra-man. They scored on three of the four Lion penalties, including scoring three goals during one non-releaseable penalty.
• The Mavericks also killed off all four of their penalties.

1st Quarter
• There were lots of turnovers, but not much scoring early on. Each team turned the ball over twice in the first five minutes. Vincent Burkhart also made a couple of early saves for the Lions.
• Georgian Court failed to convert on a couple of 30-second extra-man opportunities and the game remained scoreless.
• Mercy broke the scoreless tie, turning a GCU turnover into the game's first goal 6:28 into the quarter.
• The Mavericks were rattling off shots, but Burkhart turned four aside in the first 10 minutes.
• GCU tied the game at one as Harrison Jordan found Tyler Burns for the equalizer.
• Mercy reclaimed the lead late in the period, besting Burkhart on the man-advantage.
• The quarter ended 2-1 in favor of the Mavericks. They fired 11 total shots with Burkhart making six saves. GCU also turned the ball over seven times.

2nd Quarter
• The defensive battle continued into the second quarter. Once again, more than five minutes went by at the start before a goal was scored.
• Vincent Burkhart picked up another save, and this time Mavericks goalkeeper was tested, coming up with three quick stops.
• Mercy took their first multi-goal lead of the game, scoring again off of a GCU turnover. The goal came with 5:50 left to play in the half.
• With just over two minutes left to play in the half, Mercy added another goal for a 4-1 lead.
• They scored another in the final minute and Burkhart made one more save at the buzzer, giving him 10 for the half. But the Lions trailed 5-1 through two quarters.

3rd Quarter
• After the first two quarters saw defensive battles to start, Mercy added a quick one to start the second half, putting one in the net just 64 seconds in for a 6-1 lead.
• Georgian Court got one back with the Burns-to-Burns connection. Tyler Burns fed Vincent Burns who scored for the Lions.
• Mercy tacked on three quick goals and pushed their lead out to 9-2.
• The teams traded goals in the final two minutes. Tyler Burns added his second and Drew Barocas got on the board.
• Mercy led by six after three, 10-4.

4th Quarter
• To start the fourth, the Lions cut the Mavericks lead in half, 10-5, as Harrison Jordan picked up his first of the season.
• After a Mercy man-up goal, Jordan tacked on another goal with Barocas tallying his third assist.
• With a little over eight minutes remaining, the Lions took a non-releaseable two minute penalty. Mercy scored three man-up goals during that penalty to take a 14-6 lead.
