Lions See One Streak End, One Continue in Tri-Match vs. Philly U and Top-Ranked Dowling

LAKEWOOD, NJ- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad saw its 33-game home winning streak come to an end, dating back to the 2007 season, Saturday afternoon as the Lions fell to the #1 team in the East Region, Dowling College, 3-1, in the GCU Wellness Center. However, the Lions were able to extend its winning streak vs.CACC opponents to 63 straight victories with a 3-0 pasting of top-rival Philadelphia University in the day's opening match.

Georgian Court (17-8, 12-0 CACC) started the day with a mighty performance vs. Philly U. (23-3, 11-2 CACC), sweeping the Lady Rams, 25-22, 25-22, 25-16). Stephanie Rivera (pictured) led the Lions to their season-high 11th straight victory by leading all players with 14 kills to go along with six blocks. Libero Ana Cruz dominated on the back line as she collected 24 digs. Janelle Murdock and #Joann Zayas also reached double-digits in the digs column with 12 apiece. Lisamary Figueroa and Laura Vega# took care of distributing the ball with 20 assists and 13 assists, respectively.

GCU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their second match of the day, dropping the Golden Lions, 25-21 in Game One. Dowling College (19-5) took it to the home team in the next three games, however, blasting the Lions (25-12, 25-16, 25-15).  The loss also marks Georgian Court's first-ever in "The Well" (24 straight wins), which opened its doors in August, 2008.

Zayas paced Georgian Court in the loss with 10 kills . Cruz made numerous acrobatic digs for the Lions, garnering a game-high 27 in the contest. Figueroa led all players with 37 assists while also collecting eight digs.

The Lions look to begin a new home streak next Thursday (10/22) and extend their conference streak when the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia travels to "The Well" for a 7:00 PM contest.
