Lions Conquer Cougars of Caldwell College, 2-0

CALDWELL, N.J. - In a make-up game made necessary by a rainout on September 12th, the Georgian Court University soccer team traveled to Caldwell College (4-9-1, 4-4-1 CACC) and defeated the Cougars, 2-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Monday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Lions, with their second straight win and seventh over their last eight contests, improve to 10-6 ( 8-2 CACC).

With 12 seconds remaining in the first half, Alexa Niro received a pass from Shannon Mastrogiovanni and scored from 15 yards out to give Georgian Court a 1-0 lead. Niro now has three goals over the last five games. Fourteen minutes into the second half (58:58), Alley Abbate (pictured) drilled a dexterous drive off a rebounded shot from Candace Seaton to put the Lions ahead, 2-0. For Abbate, it was her second score of the year. 

Caldwell was unable to get a shot past GCU goalkeeper, Lindsay Hammond, who made five saves for the shutout, her sixth of the season and fourth over the past six conests.

The Lions host Queens College at Investors Savings Bank Field in a non-conference contest this Wednesday (10/21) at 3:30 PM.
