LAKEWOOD, NJ- In a night that was supposed to be full of celebration with it being Georgian Court volleyball's annual Senior Night, the evening had a more subdued feeling as the Lions were without numerous players due to injury or illness, including seniors Janelle Murdock and Ana Cruz. GCU was able to rally together and put away visiting Nyack College, 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 26-24), Thursday in the GCU Wellness Center.
Seniors Cruz, Murdock, Lisamary Figueroa (pictured) and Joann Zayas were honored by their teammates before the contest. Unfortunately, Murdock could not be in attendance as she battled an illness. Cruz was in the arena, but could not play because of an ankle injury suffered in Tuesday's loss to Adelphi University.
Laura Vega filled in for Cruz, registering a team-high nine digs. Figueroa contributed a game-high 24 assists to go a long with eight digs. Stephanie Rivera led the squad with eight kills.
The Lions improve to 23-9 and remain perfect in the CACC at 18-0. The victory marks GCU 69th consecutive win in conference play. Nyack falls to 10-11 (9-9 CACC).
GCU's home conference match vs. Concordia College on Saturday has been cancelled due to Concordia's inability to field a starting lineup because of numerous illnesses on the roster. The Lions will next take the floor on Tuesday, November 10th, in the CACC Quarterfinals here at GCU. The opponent will be either Wilmington University or University of the Sciences in Philadelphia as both clubs are tied for the 4th seed in the South Division with 9-9 records going into tonight's action.
