LAKEWOOD, NJ - Philadelphia University upset top seed and host Georgian Court University today, 11-9, to capture the first-ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Championship. Philadelphia freshman midfielder
Caribeth Shappell was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Philadelphia finishes the season with a 10-7 record, while GCU is now 15-3 after going 10-0 in conference play in the regular season.
Junior midfielder Kathleen Maurer scored the game-winner at 7:38 remaining in the second half, and Shappell added an insurance goal at 4:44 as the Lady Rams held on for the championship victory.
In addition to Shappell, sophomore midfielders Michelle O'Hanlon, Danielle Coffaro and Taylor Peltzer earned All-Tournament honors.
For the contest, both Peltzer and Maurer had three goals, while Coffaro and O'Hanlon added one apiece.
Natalie Bermudez, Lauren Conaty and Ryan McGrath earned All-Tournament honors for the Lions. Each tallied two goals apiece in the championship game.
