LOWELL, MA- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad, led by senior
Janelle Murdock (24 kills) and senior setter
Lisamary Figueroa (47 assists), toppled UMass Lowell, 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 16-25, 15-13), in its opening game of the Bentley Invitational, Saturday afternoon in Costello Gym. The Lions dropped the nightcap, 3-0, to the University of New Haven (4-3).
Murdock posted an attack hitting percentage of.488 (4 E, 41 TA) and collected 10 defensive digs for the double-double. Figueroa earned a double-double of her own collecting 11 digs to go with her impressive set total. Freshman
Brandi Arsenault smashed 11 kills to along with four blocks. Senior
Ana Cruz led the Lions with 13 digs in the victory over the River Hawks (6-3).
In Game Two, GCU fell to UNH, 24-26, 21-25, 17-25. Georgian Court senior,
Joann Zayas (pictured left), led all players with 13 digs to go along with eight kills. Murdock and junior
Stephanie Rivera also had eight kills apiece. Cruz provided 12 digs of her own in the defeat.
The Lions (3-4) close the weekend with two more matches on Sunday. The day commences with a 10:00 AM contest vs. Rollins College (10-1) and concludes vs. host-Bentley College (2-4) at 1:00 PM.
The invitational is being played at Lowell due to renovations at Bentley's Dana Center.
