FLUSHING, NY- After a grueling 0-3 start to the season last week in Tampa, FL, the GCU volleyball team returned to a familiar place, the win column, with a 3-1 victory Thursday evening in a match at Queens College. The Lady Knights (0-1) swiped the first set from the Lions, 23-25, before Georgian Court captured the next three, 25-23, 25-12, 25-14.
Coach Francisco Casado, who preaches the importance of solid fundamentals, most likely was not pleased with his team's game-high 28 attack errors, including 13 in the first set. However, Georgian Court was able to persevere. Leading the attack was senior
Janelle Murdock, who topped all players with 16 kills.
GCU Athlete of the Week, senior
Lisamary Figueroa, was once again dominating with her 33 assists, a game-high, while senior libero,
Ana Cruz, led everyone with 11 digs. Senior
Joann Zayas sizzled seven service aces in the victory.
The Lions (1-3) take the floor again next Wednesday (9/9) with another road match, this time at NYIT in Old Westbury, NY. Gametime is scheduled for 7pm.
