Lions Advance to CACC Title Game with 17-9 Victory over Philly

LAKEWOOD, NJ- The upset special was not on the menu for Philadelphia University this year, as the #1-seed Georgian Court University lacrosse team defeated the #4-seed Lady Rams, 17-9, in today's CACC semifinal match-up. The Lions (16-2), after falling to Philly U. in the '09 Championship Game, have defeated their conference foe three straight times in 2010, while earning a return trip to the title game. GCU will take on #2 Holy Family University (10-6), who dropped #3 Wilmington University (10-8) by a 12-9 count in the nightcap.

Philadelphia (7-11) took only 40 seconds to take a quick 1-0 lead, courtesy of a Taylor Boyle (Jr.-Wilton, CT) goal. That would be the Lady Rams' only advantage of the contest as the Lions rattled off four unanswered goals over the next seven minutes to take a 4-1 lead.

Philly's Kalin Hodel (So.-West Chester, OH) drove home passes from Kathleen Maurer (Sr.-Rochester, NY) at 14:21 and 8:19 in the first half to make it 6-4 GCU. However, Daryl Carr's second goal of the game at 5:38 remaining commenced an 8-0 run for the Lions that would end with Carr's hat trick at 16:47 in the second half, giving Georgian Court a 10-goal lead (14-4).

Natalie Bermudez (pictured) topped all scorers with five goals and an assist. Christine Flaherty (two goals, assist), Jillian Hadfield (goal, two assists) and Ryan McGrath (two goals, assist) registered three points each for GCU.

Taylor Peltzer (So.-Holland, PA) drilled three scores for the Lady Rams.

GCU netminder, Christine Latteri was outstanding in goal for the Lions, denying 13 shots in 46 minutes for her 16th victory of the campaign.

Katherine Sullivan (Sr.-Mt. Laurel, NJ) rejected 11 Georgian Court shots in the defeat.

The Lions swept the season-series vs. Holy Family in 2010, defeating the Tigers, 17-7, on April 1 in Philadelphia and 11-5 on April 10 at Georgian Court.
