WALTHAM, MA- The Georgian Court University volleyball team made its annual trek to New England Friday to participate in the always-challenging Bentley University Invitational.
The Lions opened the tourney with a 3-0 defeat to Stonehill College (1-3) of the NE-10 by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-14.
Sophomores
Amy Berry and
Brandi Arsenault tied for the club lead with five kills apiece. Berry and freshman libero
Nicole Sparks collected a team-high eight digs each. Freshman setter
Karol Oliveros led the way with 16 assists.
In the nightcap, Georgian Court (0-6) bowed to Bentley (2-2), also of the NE-10, 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 11-25, 18-25). The second-set victory for the Lions was the team's first set victory of the season (19 total).
Berry and freshman Monica Ponce tallied 11 kills each over four sets. Berry and Oliveros (24 assists) earned double-doubles with 11 and 10 digs, respectfully.
GCU goes right back at it Saturday morning with a 10:00 AM match vs. the University of Bridgeport before concluding its trip with a 1:00 PM showdown vs. the University of New Haven.
