WALTHAM, MA- There was not much for the Georgian Court University volleyball team to write home about this weekend as the Lions lost all four of its matches at the Bentley Invitational, concluding with two straight-set defeats vs. the University of Bridgeport and University of New Haven Saturday.
GCU (0-8) fell to Bridgeport, 25-18, 25-11, 25-9, to open day two of the tournament. Sophomore
Amy Berry, who was the Lions' lone representative on the All-Tournament team, led Georgian Court with nine kills and 10 defensive digs. Freshman setter
Karol Oliveros collected 23 assists in the loss.
Bridgeport improves to 6-1 on the year.
The Chargers of New Haven (5-1) breezed past the Lions in the finale, 25-9, 25-11, 25-15. Berry led the GCU offense yet again, this time with six kills. The freshman duo of
Cindy Aquino and
Nicole Sparks tallied five digs apiece while Oliveros distributed 16 assists.
The Lions open the CACC portion of its schedule as they seek their 74th straight conference victory, and first "W" of the season, Tuesday evening at Chestnut Hill College. Start time is scheduled for 7 PM.
