GCU Shows Mettle in Epic 3-2 Conquest at Wilmington University

NEW CASTLE, DE- The Georgian Court University volleyball team earned what may go down as its signature victory of a diffcult 2010 campaign as the Lions battled to an epic 3-2 triumph at CACC rival Wilmington University Tuesday evening.

GCU (3-11, 3-3 CACC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, taking set one by a score of 25-19. However, the Wildcats (9-7, 4-2 CACC) proved the Lions' momentum to be confiscable as they secured a 2-1 advantage, taking both set two (25-21) and set three (25-15).

Looking defeat straight in the eyes, Georgian Court and its young roster dug deep for guts and mettle that were available on a regular basis during the Lions' four straight championship seasons and clawed its way to a 25-15 victory in set four before clinching the "W" with a 15-12 advantage in the fifth and deciding set.

Sophomore #Amy Berry# led the charge with a double-double, which included a game-high 16 kills and 16 digs. Senior #Stephanie Rivera# found the form that made her a force on those championship clubs with 13 kills and a .348 attack%. Sophomore Brandi Arsenault contributed 10 kills of her own.

Freshman Karol Oliveros established a new career-high with 40 assists while freshman #Cindy Aquino# played a vital role with 10 digs.

The Lions hope to ride this high into Thursday evening when they host Goldey-Beacom College at 7PM in the Wellness Center.
