BLOOMFIELD, NJ- Bloomfield's women's volleyball team improved to 7-13 overall and 6-11 in conference play Saturday afternoon, as they swept CACC South Division rival Georgian Court University in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-19) home victory to stay within a game of securing the North Division's final playoff spot.
The visiting Lions (7-20, 6-10 CACC) were able to stay with Bloomfield through the early stages of the opening set, but a 9-1 run with the score tied at eight gave the Lady Deacons a commanding 17-9 advantage they would not relinquish. The home team cruised the rest of the way, picking up the 25-17 set victory and grabbing a 1-0 lead in the contest.
Bloomfield dominated set number two from the outset, engineering a 10-1 run to open the frame and cruising the rest of the way to the decisive 25-12 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match. There would be no comeback effort from Georgian Court as the Lady Deacons led wire-to-wire in a 25-19 third set victory, completing the 3-0 sweep to stay alive in the CACC Tournament race with four matches to play.
Clodesh Marie Montano (Carolina, P.R.), Dominic Spivey (Newark, N.J.) and Da'Cheray Thomas (Newark, N.J.) finished with seven kills apiece to lead the Bloomfield attack, while Spivey's 10 digs were a team-high for the afternoon. Allison Hart (Pagosa Springs, Co.) turned a solid all-around effort, posting four kills, seven digs, three service aces and 22 assists in the victory.
The Lions return to action Tuesday, October 25 with a non-conference home match against West Chester University. Start time for the contest is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
