Wilmington, DE- Wilmington University swept the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball action on Thursday evening at the Pratt Center.
The Wildcats took the first set by a score of 25-19, and used a late rally to take set two, 25-21. Georgian Court had the momentum early in set three, taking a quick four point lead, but the ‘Cats quickly turned things around and easily dispatched the Lions, 25-15. The three-set victory marks the first sweep for Wilmington over Georgian Court, since September of 2005.
Wilmington was led by senior right side hitter Paige Norvell (Sr.-Newark, DE), who posted seven kills and two blocks. The sophomore duo of Katie Shorter (So.-Pasadena, MD) and Brooke Foskey (So.-Elkton, MD) each tallied five kills, while Shorter recorded six blocks. Freshman Mia Padilla (Fr.-Virginia Beach, VA) led the defense, notching 10 digs, while senior libero Kim Shropshire (Sr.-Wilmington, DE) added nine. Senior setter Shannon Rumple (Sr.-Fallston, MD) posted 10 assists and four aces for the ‘Cats.
Georgian Court was led by Tatiana Villariny’s seven kills. Maria Antimisiaris added six kills and seven digs, while setter Jaslene Lopez chipped in with 18 assists and 10 digs.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 2-0 in the CACC and 5-3 overall, while Georgian Court suffered their first loss of the CACC season and dropped to 3-1 in the conference and 4-5 on the season.
The Lions travel to Waltham, MA for a Friday evening (7:30 PM) match vs. Bentley University on Day One of the annual Bentley Invitational.
