CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman forward Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 79th minute, to lead the Caldwell College women's soccer team to a 2-1 triumph over visiting Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win keeps the Cougars unbeaten in the conference at 3-0, while evening their overall record to 3-3. The Lions, who won the CACC Tournament last season, are 1-4 overall, 1-2 CACC.
A little over 10 minutes into the game, Migoya sprung free on the right side and blasted a shot into the goal for a 1-0 lead. The Lions pulled even in the 27th minute, when Amber Schlosser one-timed a pass from Kelly Lyons to tie the score at 1-1 and collect her first collegiate goal. The game remained deadlocked until the 79th minute. Migoya received a long pass from senior Giana Scerbo (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park), beat her defender and scored from 18 yards out for a 2-1 Caldwell lead. The Lions took two shots the rest of the way, including one on goal that was saved by junior goalkeeper Kristin Cabales (East Islip, NY/Islip Terrace), but the Cougars held on to win.
Cabales finished with three saves for Caldwell, while Shealyn Sullivan tallied two saves for Georgian Court.
The win marked Migoya's third two-goal game against a CACC opponent, following a pair of goals against Holy Family University on Sept. 10 and two more against Bloomfield College on Sept. 15. Caldwell now has wins over both of last year's CACC Tournament finalists in GCU and Holy Family.
GCU travels to Chestnut Hill College for another CACC match on Wednesday, Sept. 21, beginning at 7 PM at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
